Our Story

In 1993, a spirited group embarked on a mission to ignite joy and catalyze change in their community.

Three decades later, SUPRATIVA remains a vibrant force for good!

Suprativa is a non-profit, voluntary organization dedicated to the development of the underprivileged in Odisha, India. With a focus on critical areas such as health, education, environment, livelihood, road safety, science communication, disaster preparedness, community media, and emergency relief, Suprativa strives to uplift and empower marginalized communities.

Our mission is to bring hope, aspiration, and joy to everyone by unlocking the inner talent and potential (suprativa) within each individual, enabling them to perform their best. We envision a society brimming with peace, joy, happiness, and harmony, where every person enjoys freedom from poverty, ignorance, hunger, fear, and exploitation. Our goal is to affirm basic human values, humanity, and mutual respect in all our endeavors.

Our Objectives

Main Objective

The primary objective of Suprativa is to identify the problems faced by the weaker sections of the community, prioritize and resolve them using available resources through an organized, systematic, and holistic approach.

Other Objectives

Other objectives of Suprativa include:

alleviating basic needs by helping the poor achieve essential requirements such as food, clothing, and shelter
eradicating social issues such as child labor, alcoholism, illiteracy, blind beliefs, unsociability, gender discrimination, and social maladjustment through awareness campaigns and educational programs.
providing legal education and aid to the needy and poor, addressing various legal matters including human rights violations
undertaking relief measures for those affected by natural calamities like floods, fires, droughts, and cyclones, and initiate rehabilitation efforts for the aged, disabled, and other distressed individuals.
promoting artistic, cultural, sporting, scientific, and literary activities among the community and supports economic activities for socially and economically backward groups by facilitating access to microfinance, vocational training, and entrepreneurship opportunities.

Some Milestones

1993
A group of enthusiastic youths initiate Suprativa's journey with small-scale social work projects.
1994
Suprativa is registered under the Societies Registration Act, vide registration no. 19546/159 of 1993-94.
1995
Suprativa expands its focus areas to include health, education, environment, livelihood, science communication, disaster preparedness, and emergency relief.
1997
Received a land measuring 0.04 acres from Mr. Bikash Mohapatra for the construction of Suprativa's office at Fakirpada, Cuttack.
1998
Suprativa is registered under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, vide Registration No. 104870155.
1999
The office building, library, and training center is constructed over its own land at Fakirpada, Cuttack, and dedicated to the community.
2006
Suprativa is registered under Section 12A and 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961, to provide tax relief to donors.
2009
The organization is granted a unique ID (No. OR/2009/0001508) by NITI Aayog, marking its recognition by the Government of India and improving its access to governmental support.
2015
Suprativa is affiliated as a member of VIPNET, a Vigyan Prasar Network by Vigyan Prasar, Government of India.
2017
Suprativa renews its FCRA registration under the provisions of the updated Act, ensuring continued compliance and eligibility for foreign contributions.
2018
Radio Hirakhand, a Community Radio Station, is set up in Sambalpur and begins broadcasting programs.
2021
As per new policy, the organization secures registration under Section 12A and gets approval under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act, providing tax benefits to its donors and enhancing its credibility.
2022
Suprativa is registered under the Companies Act (Registration No. CSR00022011) for undertaking CSR activities.
Radio Hirakhand run by Suprativa is declared a Lead Community Radio Station by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India.
2023
Mr. Enkat Rao gifts 0.10 acres of land to the organization at Udepur, Bargarh, for charitable purposes.
Suprativa renews its FCRA registration under the provisions of the updated Act, ensuring continued compliance and eligibility for foreign contributions.

Organizational Structure

Executive Council

The Executive Council is the supreme governing and administrative body of Suprativa, established under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. The council is entrusted with the management of the day-to-day affairs of the organization. It convenes at least four times a year to plan, assess, monitor, evaluate, and review the progress of various initiatives and programs. The Secretary, who is either elected or selected by the General Body, serves as the Chief Functionary and oversees the execution of the council's decisions.

General Body

The General Body of Suprativa conducts an annual meeting every year, during which it reviews the organization's activities and plans for the future. This body plays a crucial role in the strategic direction and overall governance of Suprativa.

Advisory Committee

Suprativa also benefits from the guidance of an Advisory Committee composed of qualified experts in various fields. This committee provides strategic advice and support to the Executive Council and the Secretary, ensuring that the organization's initiatives are aligned with best practices and effective strategies for social development.

The organization's programs are implemented by a dedicated team of highly motivated professionals who are committed to the true spirit of social development.

Volunteers

In addition to its regular staff, Suprativa is supported by a network of volunteers who respond promptly to the organization's needs. These volunteers are particularly instrumental during times of crisis, such as natural and man-made disasters, and are actively involved in awareness campaigns and advocacy efforts.

Together, the Executive Council, General Body, Advisory Committee, professionals, and volunteers form a cohesive and dynamic organizational structure that drives Suprativa's mission to empower and uplift underprivileged communities. This structure ensures effective planning, execution, and continuous improvement of our initiatives, fostering sustainable development and social change.

Financial Information

The financial management of Suprativa is characterized by stringent auditing processes and transparent practices. Our accounts are audited at regular intervals to ensure economy, efficiency, and transparency in all our financial dealings. There is a provision for continuous internal audits, which help in maintaining ongoing financial oversight. Additionally, audits by funding agencies in respect of their contributions are welcomed and conducted as necessary.

Annually, Suprativa undergoes a comprehensive audit by a Chartered Accountant, ensuring that all expenditures are thoroughly scrutinized. This multi-layered auditing process guarantees that our financial operations adhere to the highest standards of accountability and integrity. Suprativa's projects and programs are supported by a diverse range of funding agencies, including Government of India, Government of Odisha, Corporate entities, and Voluntary organizations.

These funding sources are crucial for the implementation of our various initiatives. The funds provided are allocated and utilized meticulously to ensure the successful execution of programs while maintaining high-quality standards.

Funds from different sources are received at various times throughout the year. To manage this, Suprativa prepares work programs in a phased manner, aligning project implementation schedules with the availability of funds. This strategic planning ensures the smooth operation of all activities and optimal use of resources.

Registration and Legal Status

Society Registration: Suprativa was officially registered under the Society Registration Act, XXI of 1860 (Registration No. 19546/159 of 1993-94), establishing its legal foundation as a non-profit organization.

Foreign Contribution Regulation Act: On December 8, 1998, Suprativa received registration under Section 6 (I) of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 1976, from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India (Registration No. 104870155). This registration has been renewed under the provisions of Section 16 of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010, allowing the organization to receive foreign contributions.

Income Tax Exemptions: Suprativa is registered under Section 12A and 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961, which enables donors to avail tax exemptions on their contributions.

Companies Act: In 2023, Suprativa further strengthened its legal standing by registering under the Companies Act, with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India.

NITI Aayog Registration: The organization has been granted a unique ID by NITI Aayog, Government of India, facilitating better coordination and support from various government agencies.

Committed to alleviating hunger and food insecurity, in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 2, we have implemented various initiatives to ensure that no one goes to bed hungry, especially during times of crisis and uncertainty. Our food distribution programs and community kitchens have provided nutritious meals to countless individuals, fostering hope and resilience in vulnerable populations.

Promoting Good Health and Well-being

Fostering holistic well-being and equitable access to healthcare services is a core part of our mission, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 3. Through a range of health initiatives, we provide accessible healthcare services, promote health awareness, and address key health challenges in our communities. Our mobile health camps, health education workshops, and partnerships with healthcare providers have significantly improved health outcomes for many.

Empowering Communities through Quality Education

Our mission is to champion quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for everyone, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 4. Through innovative programs and initiatives, we address educational disparities, empower marginalized communities, and foster a culture of knowledge-sharing and scientific inquiry. Our educational programs have enhanced literacy rates, increased school attendance, and provided vocational training, opening new opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Empowering Women for Gender Equality

At Suprativa, we are committed to achieving gender equality and empowering women through various initiatives aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 5. Our programs aim to uplift women from all walks of life, enabling them to take charge of their lives and contribute meaningfully to their families, communities, and society. Through skill development workshops, microfinance support, and advocacy for women's rights, we have empowered numerous women to achieve economic independence and social recognition.

Dedicated to promoting sustainable cities and communities, in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 11, we adopt a proactive approach to disaster management and community engagement. We strive to build resilience and empower local communities to effectively respond to and mitigate the impact of natural disasters. Our disaster preparedness training, emergency relief efforts, and community infrastructure projects have enhanced the resilience of many vulnerable areas.

Nurturing Life on Land

We are committed to promoting sustainable land use and preserving biodiversity, in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 15. Through innovative initiatives and community engagement efforts, we aim to protect and enhance life on land for present and future generations. Our reforestation projects, biodiversity conservation programs, and environmental education campaigns have made significant strides in preserving natural habitats and promoting sustainable land practices. Hundreds of children have been oriented with environment education.
